Furious Fish Pottery is High Fire reduction stoneware by Hans Hintzen. The cup or other pot is first thrown on the wheel from Continental Clay Stoneware. It is then trimmed, decorated and handle attached. Next it is "bisque" fired to @1800 degrees F. Underglazes and glazes are then applied and the pot is glaze or "reduction" fired to @2300 degrees F. During reduction firing the oxygen supply to the kiln is drastically reduced, forcing the fire to extract oxygen from the pot, resulting in a permanent chemical change. Reduction firing transforms the clay and glaze into glass coated rock. High fire stoneware is extremely durable and is microwave and dishwasher safe, although I recommend hand washing to better preserve the colors and textures.
